Slightly different from the traditional Panforte, Panpepato dates back to around the twelfth century when spices from the Far East came to European shores (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, black pepper). The original ingredients are still used by master panforte bakers to keep those ancient flavours alive.
Normally enjoyed in winter, perhaps with coffee and liqueurs after a meal. Served as small slices.
