Pekmez is a traditional Turkish, Persian and Balkanic syrup obtained by condensing juices of fruit must. This Pomegranate version is a reduction from the juice of a tart variety of pomegranate, evaporated to form a dark rich red liquid.
It has many uses such as a natural sweetener and is used in many Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes and desserts.
You can try it as a glaze or marinade on meat, or as a dressing for salads. Can be used in cocktails or as a soft drink mixed with fizzy water. Also used in soups, over ice cream and in cakes.
