I was probably given the wrong package, that's my most generous explanation for what happened. I ordered 1kg of the Colombian Medellin Excelso, high roast. I was very surprised upon opening the bag, the beans were so dark, they were black, and very shiny, glazed with a sort of oil, smelling rancid. This is very typical of old beans (roasted many months or years ago). I drew a few shots of espresso, and even in my lowest grinder setting the shot came out in just a few seconds. The ground coffee was a black powder, and of course the espresso shots tasted much worse than the crapiest coffee you can get in Greggs, completely undrinkable. I don't believe anyone would drink this, and can only assume it was sent an old bag.
Even with my most generous assumption, and of course mistakes can happen, but why would you keep a bag of coffee that old lying around in the first place? When do you throw away old unsold inventory? Also, do don't you put any dates on the pack? There was no roast date, nor any use-by date. I'm sorry, but these are too many red flags that I don't even a refund, I never want to order coffee from here again.
Mild roasted yet full of flavour
It brings Colombia home
A repeat purchase of this lovely coffee. I drink mine as a cappuccino and the flavour comes well through the milk. Very happy!
I choose the high roast version, and find that I can get enhanced flavour without making it too strong. It's also great for blending with the flavoured decaffs I regularly buy.
I have shopped at the Algerian Coffee Stores for many years now, My favourite Colombian coffee beans are freshly roasted and flavoursome, the service is second to none and the price of the coffee is cheaper than vastly inferior supermarket products.
