Roasted and ground chicory used as an additive to roasted coffee. (Please note this chicory is not suitable as a substitute).
Chicory was first discovered as an additive in Holland around 1750. The French then used it as a coffee substitute in the 18th century when Napoleon attempted to make France a self-sufficient country. This lasted only a few years but the French, to this day, still blend chicory with their coffee. The French then brought it over to New Orleans, during its colonization, where it was widely used especially later during the American Civil War. It is still a very popular additive in certain parts of America.

Chicory is caffeine free so it is perfect for cutting down your daily caffeine intake.
