Valerian root is best known for its calming qualities and is used in connection with insomnia and anxiety. Also used to ease digestion and soothe headaches and menstrual cramps. It has a sedative effect so we would suggest if you've not tried the tea before, to prepare with just a small quantity at first.
Some after effects can also occur such as nausea and upset stomach. There are many medications that should not be combined with valerian root tea, specifically those for anxiety, asthma, high blood pressure, headaches and seizures.
Before adding this herbal tea to your daily or weekly health practices, speak to your doctor about any potential interactions with medicines you may be prescribed.
To prepare, use hot water off the boil, so as not to damage any essential minerals. Caffeine Free.
