Slightly different from traditional Panforte, Panpepato predates the panforte.Invented in the monasteries where the monks mixed the various ingredients, including spices, like cinnamon and pimento, which give panpepato its characteristic “strong” taste. The original ingredients are still used by master panforte bakers to keep those ancient flavours alive.
Normally enjoyed in winter, perhaps with coffee and liqueurs after a meal. Served as small slices.
